HVAC Controls & Thermostats

Thermostats and programmable controls, set up so they actually get used.

What a control actually changes

A thermostat does not make a system more efficient. It changes when the system runs — and for most buildings that is where the money is.

The saving comes from not heating or cooling space nobody is using. A connected thermostat that has been left on its out-of-the-box schedule delivers very little of that, which is why we set the schedule up with you rather than mounting the unit and leaving.

What we fit

Brand Range
Honeywell (with Resideo) Simple digital through to fully programmable and connected controls
ecobee Connected thermostats with scheduling around occupancy
Aprilaire Digital thermostats, including models that integrate with whole-home air quality equipment

We have been installing Honeywell controls for more than forty years.

Getting the wiring right

More thermostat replacements go wrong here than anywhere else. A few things that decide what can actually be fitted:

  • Multi-stage equipment needs a thermostat that can drive each stage
  • Heat pumps with auxiliary heat need correct changeover control, or the strip heat runs when it should not — an expensive fault that is easy to miss
  • A common wire is required by most connected thermostats and is often absent from older thermostat cable

We check before recommending, not after.

Commercial

We fit and service controls in commercial buildings as well as homes, and the occupancy-schedule argument is stronger there — an empty building overnight is a larger share of the running cost.

Talk to us about what your building needs and we will tell you plainly whether it is something we handle.

Common questions

Will a smart thermostat actually lower my bill?

Only if the schedule reflects when the building is genuinely empty. The savings come from not conditioning an unoccupied space, not from the thermostat itself. A smart thermostat left on a default schedule saves very little, which is why we set the schedule up with you rather than just mounting it.

Can I use any thermostat with my system?

Not always. Multi-stage systems, heat pumps with auxiliary heat, and communicating equipment all have wiring requirements a basic thermostat cannot meet. Some installs also need a common wire that older thermostat cable does not include. We check before recommending anything.

Do you still work with conventional programmable thermostats?

Yes. A well-programmed conventional thermostat outperforms a smart one nobody has configured. If a connected thermostat is not useful to you, we will fit something simpler.
